Barb Jungr is a renowned musical theatre writer and an award-winning singer, songwriter and performer. She has worked extensively in children’s theatre, discovering her love of writing for the stage working with the inspirational Cal McCrystal on the music and songs for three pantomimes at Newbury Corn Exchange in the early 2000s. Subsequently she was the lyricist for Birmingham Theatre Company’s The Jungle Book (2011), directed by Neal Foster.

Her joy of working on productions for children grew at the acclaimed Little Angel Theatre, “Home of British Puppetry”, where, in collaboration with director Peter Glanville, she created The Fabulous Flutterbys (book, music and songs), and she co-adapted and wrote songs and music for We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, which has toured extensively ever since. With director Samantha Lane, she co-adapted and wrote songs and music for The Singing Mermaid, The Smartest Giant in Town (Olivier Award nominated in 2023 for Best Family Show), Charlie Cook and His Favourite Book and A Squash and a Squeeze (2025). In 2019/2020 she was co-writer with Samantha Lane of The Pixie and the Pudding, for which she wrote music and songs, and she co-wrote and recorded music for the Little Angel Theatre film Mother Christmas in 2020. In 2025 she and Lane collaborated again on Dermot O’Leary’s Toto the Ninja Cat and the Great Snake Escape, which Jungr co-adapted and composed music and songs for, and in 2026 Pip and Posy launched at Little Angel Theatre before touring nationally, again with Jungr’s songs and music.

For Polka Theatre she wrote lyrics and music for How to Hide a Lion, she was composer and lyricist for Michael Rosen’s Chocolate Cake, which she co-adapted, and she was composer and lyricist for Jack V Giant.

In mainstream theatre she was lyricist and co-writer of 2018’s Liver Birds Flying Home for the Royal Court, Liverpool. She is the originator and lyricist of Soho Songs, which she performs in October 2026 at Wilton’s Music Hall, produced by Denise Silvey’s Cahoots Productions. The Worthing Girls, which she is currently developing with book writer Sue Teddern, had two sold-out concert workshop performances at the Connaught Theatre, Worthing, in September 2025, produced by James Seabright and directed by Samantha Lane. It is in further development for 2027, re-titled Old Birds.
